EXTINCTION OF JUANG TRIBES

The population of Juang Tribes in Orissa has increased from 30876 in 1981 to 35665 in 1991 as per the 1981 and 1991 the Census data respectively of the Registrar General of India.

No instance of untimely death has come to the notice of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. However, the Government of Orissa are implementing various socio-economic programmes by setting up a micro project (The Juang Development Agency) registered under the Society Registration Act for the overall development of Juangs, a Primitive Tribal Groups in Orissa. In addition, funds are also available under the Central Sector Scheme for the development of Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) for the implementation of programmes by the State Governments and Non-Government Organisations.

This information was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Shri Jual Oram in a written reply to a question from Shri K. P. Singh Deo in the Lok Sabha today.
