SHRI SANTOSH GANGWAR APPEALS TO THE
WORKMEN OF THE JUTE INDUSTRY TO DEFER THE STRIKE IN ORDER TO CREATE
AN ATMOSPHERE CONDUCIVE TO AMICABLE RESOLUTION OF DEMANDS
Shri Santosh Gangwar,
Minister of State for Labour has appealed to the workmen of the
Jute Industry to defer the strike in order to create an atmosphere
conducive to amicable resolution of demands. He has also advised
the employers not to victimise any workman for participation in
the strike. Shri Gangwar was presiding over the meeting of tripartite
committee on Jute Industry in New Delhi today. The jute workers
of West Bengal, represented by Bhartiya Jute Mazdoor Sangh, Bengal
Jute Mill Workers’ Union and other trade unions affiliated to
National Federation of Indian Trade Union (NFITU), All Indian
Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Indian Federation of Trade Unions
(IFTU) and Jute Textiles Workers’ Federation, are on indefinite
strike with effect from 18.8.2003 in support of their demands.
Hon’ble Minister
of state for Labour has observed that the problems of Jute Industry
and its workers being complex in nature, need to be examined by
a committee consisting of the representatives of the Ministry
of Labour, Ministry of Textile, Government of West Bengal, Employers
and the Workmen. A Committee will be constituted shortly to look
into the problems. The committee will submit its report within
three months and thereafter the next meeting of the Tripartite
Committee on Jute Industry will be convened.
