ROMELT STEEL PLANT IN CHHATISGARH

Development Corporation (NMDC) has come forward to set up the
first Romelt Steel Plant in the country in Chhatisgarh State to
neutralize the ecological dangers posed by the mine slimes. The
Minister for Mines, Shri Ramesh Bais today led a delegation of
Chhatisgarh to the Prime Minister to request him to lay the foundation
stone of the plant. The Minister said that the Prime Minister
has agreed to lay the foundation stone on May 15, 2003. The Minister
for Steel, Shri B.K. Tripathy will also attend the function. The
plant will be set up at Nagarnar of Bastar District of Chhatisgarh.
Shri Bais said that the plant will help development of the Bastar
District and the State. The delegation led by the Union Mines
Minister also discussed with the Prime Minister the rehabilitation
programme taken up in the drought affected areas in the State.
