SANTOSH GANGWAR TAKES OVER AS MINISTER
OF STATE FOR LABOUR
Shri Santosh Gangwar
today took over as the new Minister of State for Labour at Shram
Shakti Bhawan office of the Labour Ministry. Shri
Santosh Gangwar is the Member of Parliament from Bareilly Parliamentary
Constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He was elected to the Lok Sabha
for the first time in 1989 from the Bareilly Parliamentary Constituency
and has since then been continuously representing this constituency
creating a record by being elected for five successive terms.
In the last election held for the 13th Lok Sabha Shri
Gangwar won by a margin of over 1.36 lakh votes. Shri Gangwar
belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Shri Santosh
Gangwar is an able Parliamentarian and has held several important
positions in Parliament. He has served as Member in the Privileges
Committee, Consultative Committees in Ministries of Commerce and
Transport & Tourism, Committee for Welfare of Scheduled Castes
and Scheduled Tribes, Estimates Committee and the Government Assurance
Committee. He has been a member of the governing body of the Indian
Council of Agricultural Research. During the 10th Lok
Sabha, he was the whip of the BJP Parliamentary party. During
1996-97, he was the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing committee
on Agriculture.
Shri Gangwar
has been in active politics for over two decades and has held
several important positions in the Party including the post of
General Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh, BJP Unit for two terms.
He has travelled
widely both within and outside the country and has led delegations
of Members of Parliament to Abu Dhabi and Russia during his stint
as Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the last Ministry.
He has also attended various national/international conferences
in the field of Petroleum.
Talking to newsmen
present in his office while taking over, Shri Santosh Gangwar
said that he would get the opportunity to work under Union Labour
Minister, Dr. Sahib Singh and will willingly shoulder the responsibility
to meet the challenges in the way of providing social security
to workers in the organized as well as in the unorganized sector.
