DEPARTMENT OF INDIAN SYSTEMS OF
MEDICINES TO BE CHANGED TO ‘DEPARTMENT OF AYUSH’
The Prime Minister,
Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee today announced that the name of the
Department of Indian Systems of Medicines and Homoeopathy in the
Ministry of Health will be changed to Department of Ayush. ‘Ayush’
is an abbreviation, wherein ‘A’ stands for Ayurveda, ‘Y’ stands
for Yoga and Naturopathy, ‘U’ stands for Unani, ‘S’ stands for
Siddha and ‘H’ stands for Homeopathic systems of medicine.
The announcement
was made when a delegation of Ayurveda practitioners called on
Shri Vajpayee on the occasion of ‘Dhanwantri Jayanti’, here today.
The delegation led by Shri Devendra Triguna also presented an
‘amrit kalash’ to the Prime Minister on the occasion.
