            The Jury considered 20 Books received for the Award for the Best Book on Cinema 2000 representing 7 languages and articles by 19 Film Critics representing 6 Indian Languages for the Awards for the Best Film Critic 2000.

The award for the Best Book on Cinema, 2000 goes to Sholay for its lucid story-telling. A fast-paced, informative book, a fitting tribute to a box-office phenomenon. Even after 25 years, the making of Sholay, reported crisply and researched thoroughly, makes absorbing reading.

 

SPECIAL MENTION 

  1. The Book Jury makes a Special Mention for 2000 of Niranjan Pal for his book Such Is Life for its straightforward narration and personalized nostalgia, taking the reader right into the beginnings of Indian cinema.
  2. The Book Jury makes a Special Mention for 2000 of Dr Uma Garg for her book Sangeet Ka Soundarya Bodh for going into and exploring a territory which authors rarely venture into – Indian film music.

 

 

    2. AWARD FOR THE BEST FILM CRITIC 2000

Vasiraju Prakasham (Telugu) and Suresh Sharma (Hindi)

Swarna Kamal and a Cash prize of Rs.7,500/- each to Film Critics Vasiraju Prakasham and Suresh Sharma

CITATION

The award for the Best Film Critic of 2000 goes to Vasiraju Prakasham for deep knowledge of cinema which is reflected in his prolific writing.

And

The award for the Best Film Critic of 2000 goes to Suresh Sharma for his interesting and analytical writing on cinema, constantly keeping in mind the Indian viewer.

 

SPECIAL MENTION (Film Critic)

The Jury makes a special mention of Ratnottama Sengupta for consistency and variety in her knowledgeable reporting on cinema.
