Mongolian Defence Minister calls on Pranab Mukherjee India-Mongolia joint working group to be set up
The Defence Minister of Mongolia Mr. Ts Sharavdorj called on Defence Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee here today. Both the ministers agreed to upgrade cooperation in training, hold regular joint exercises and explore cooperation in other areas. An India-Mongolia Joint Working Group will be established to work out details of cooperation in the field of defence.

Earlier in the day, the visiting dignitary was given a ceremonial guard of honour on his arrival at Defence Headquarters. The Defence secretary Shri Shekhar Dutta and other senior officers of the armed forces and Ministry of Defence called on him. The Mongolian Defence Minister also visited the centre for UN Peacekeeping at United Services Institution here today.

The visit of the Mongolian Defence Minister coincides with the 50th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations bet! ween the two countries on 24th December 1955. Since then there have been all round improvement in cooperation between India and Mongolia in the fields of agriculture, commerce. trade, culture, science and technology and defence. The two countries signed the Agreement on Defence Cooperation in 2001 and the defence ties between the two sides have moved forward in the fields of training, bilateral visits and joint exercises. The first joint exercise was held in Mongolia in October last year. During his one week stay in India the visiting Minister will be witnessing the second joint exercise being held from 5th-14th December 2005 at Vairangte, Mizoram and will also visit Bodh Gaya.
