Exercise Emerald Mercury concludes
The ten-day joint Indo-UK Command Post Planning Exercise Emerald Mercury held in Hyderabad has since concluded. About 58 Indian and 48 UK officers took part in this exercise which was the first of its kind between the two countries. This was essentially an exercise in planning an UN mandated joint indo-UK task force to be deployed for peace support operations to provide humanitarian relief in a strife torn country.

The exercise was conducted under the aegis of Headquarters of Integrated Defence Staff and the Joint Forces Headquarters of the UK. The Exercise offered an excellent opportunity to officers of both the countries to understand each other’s methods of operations and planning tools. It also largely helped them in understanding each other’s work environment. The Exercise was of immense learning value in respect of various facets of coordination and integration required for planning a joint operation of this nature.

The UK High commissioner to India, the Indian Chief of Integrated Staff and the Chief of Joint Operations UK were some of the high level officials who witnessed the Exercise.
