NCC Pre- Everest Expedition to Mt Kamet (25446 FT) Flagged off
The NCC Pre-Everest Expedition 2012 to Mt Kamet in the Garhwal Himalayas Region was 'Flagged Off' on 28 Aug 2012 by Shri Shashikant Sharma, Defence Secretary here today.

This will be the second Pre- Everest expedition in preparation for the NCC Everest expedition planned in March 2013. The expedition comprises of Team Leader Col SC Sharma threeOfficers and 10 Jawans along with 15 NCC cadets selected after the first successful pre Everest expedition to Mt DeoTibba in June 2012.

Mt Kamet at 25446 ftis the third highest peak in India located in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand and is the highest peak which is permitted to be climbed in India. It is a challenging peak which tests the technical skills and also poses severe challenge for the climbers in terms of extreme low temperatures and windy conditions. The expedition will enable the cadets to gain invaluable experience on the rigours of high altitude climbing and be better equipped to take on the challenge of Mt Everest.

Nine cadets will finally form part of the team along with experienced climbers who will attempt to place the NCC flag on the summit of Mt Everest in 2013.
