The incident of suicide by an army personnel on 8th August 2012 in Samba sector of Jammu and Kashmir led to unrest. A Court of Inquiry has been convened by Army to investigate the matter. Any army personnel found guilty in such case is punished in accordance with the provisions of Army Act / Rules.

             No army jawan is subjected to undue harassment by the officers. The army personnel perform their duties in congenial environment. However, the Government has taken a number of steps to keep up the morale of the jawans, viz, liberalized leave policy, establishing grievance redressal mechanisms, provision for recreational facilities, improvement in quality of food and clothing, deployment of psychological counselors etc.
