Problems Faced by Textile Sector


The problems faced by the textile industry can be broadly categorised as under:-


(i)       Lack of modernisation

(ii)     Paucity of skilled manpower

(iii)   Inadequate infrastructure


According to the Report of the Working Group for Textiles and Jute Industry for Twelfth Five Year Plan, the incremental human resources requirement for the textile and clothing sector would be about 11 million during the period 2012 to 2018.


To address the need for trained manpower in textile sector and achieve the target over a period of the next five years, Government has launched

 (i) Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) (ii) Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (iii) Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) which would help improve overall health of textile sector and create more employment in textile industry.       


The Information was given by the the Minister of State in the Ministry of  Textiles Smt  Panabaaka Lakshmi in the Rajya Sabha today.
