Nehru Yuvak Kendras’ activities to be enhanced

The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan an autonomous body under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports with a countrywide network of volunteers and youth clubs will now be involved in various central schemes being implemented by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Human Resource Development, Tourism and Women & Child Development etc.

Giving this information here today, the Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Sunil Dutt said that the large army of two lakh youth clubs affiliated to NYKS will be instrumental in spreading awareness about the welfare schemes run by these ministries. Shri Dutt was speaking to Newspersons after conclusion of a Two-Day Quarterly review Meeting of the Zonal Directors of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan. The Zonal Directors from across the country participated in the Meeting.

Shri Sunil Dutt said that NYKS has adopted 500 model villages to create awareness amongst the rural population about the issues relating to their health and hygiene including clean potable water etc.

The Minister also informed that the NYKS will now be involved by the Ministry of Home Affairs in Disaster Management Activities at District Level. The Ministry of Home Affairs has already declared NYKS as the nodal agency for disaster management at district level and directions to this effect have been issued to District Magistrates /District Collectors in this regard.

Shri Dutt said that to enhance employment opportunities amongst the rural youth, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports has sanctioned 800 projects to Youth Clubs for imparting Vocational Training in trades like plumbing, automobile, household wiring etc.

Smt. Meenaxi Anand Chaudhry. Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports also spoke at the Conference and emphasised the need of maintaining the programmes for the youth in general and for remote areas in particular.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports is having convergence with different Ministries of Government of India and other agencies for various developmental activities, welfare and awareness generation programmes amongst youth, women and adolescents.

The Review Meeting was inaugurated by Dr Shakeel Ahmad Khan, Vice Chairman, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan. The issues discussed at the review meeting included new initiatives by NYKS in recent months to enhance the role of youth in nation developmental activities.
