|
Rajya Sabha
The Minister of Panchayati Raj and Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar has said that as per the proposals received from the various agencies concerned with the construction/development of venues and training infrastructure viz., Sports Authority of India (SAI), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and All India Tennis Association (AITA); upgradation of civic infrastructure, including transportation, etc. which is to be done by the Government of NCT of Delhi; the actual conduct of the Games by the Organising Committee; and preliminary estimates for the preparation of the teams for the Games, the estimated expenditure on Government account would be around Rs.3,750 crore. Additional expenditure is expected to be incurred, particularly for Hotels or the Games Village and elsewhere, by the private sector on its own and through private-public partnerships. Besides, there would be security related expenditure, which is being dealt separately by Ministry of Home Affairs. Out of the above mentioned expenditure, funds for the conduct of the Games of the order of a little under Rs.900 crores would be provided to the Organising Committee on a ‘revenue-neutral’ basis.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today, Shri Aiyar said, the DDA has proposed to develop accommodation for the athletics, etc. in the Games Village on a public-private partnership basis. In addition, the Organizing Committee has indicated that it would raise revenue through sponsorship, broadcasting, merchandizing, licensing etc., and efforts would also be made to secure maximum possible private sector participation by way of contributions/sponsorship especially in the form of value in kind. In addition to the existing partnership between the Indian Olympic Association and the Confederation of India Industries, Government has begun interacting with various Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
