| 36 new vocational trades introduced in ITIs |
36 new trades have been introduced for training in Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centers to promote skill training by the Directorate General of Employment and Training in the Ministry of Labour. Seven obsolete trades have been deleted. Course curriculum, as per market need, is revised periodically. During last 3 years, course curriculum for nine trades has been revised as per the need of the Labour market.
For better participation of women in skill training, the upper age limit for women, in women exclusive Industrial Training Institutes/Wings has been waived off. A provision for reservation of 25% seats for women in general Industrial Training Institutes has been made.
The total number of training seats available for women in women exclusive Training Institutes in a year are 6154 in Punjab and 1104 IN Rajasthan. In addition to this, 25% seats in the General Training Institutes in Rajasthan, are reserved for women. Punjab has a large number of training seats for women. No specific reservation for women has been kept in General Industrial Training Institutes but girls can also take admission in them.
This information was given by the Minister of Labour and Employment Shri K. Chandrasekhar Rao in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha here today.
