|Minister Srikant Jena Releases Statistical Year Book 2012,
Stresses upon Effective Utilisation of Data for better Productivity
|The Minister of State (I/C) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Shri Srikant Kumar Jena today released the Statistical Year Book 2012. The book is a socio-economic database which has around 300 tables and more than 2000 indicators covering different sectors like social, economic, agriculture, infrastructure, etc. It contains time-series data starting 2000-01 upto the latest available year. |
In a function organised by the Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation, the Minister also released DevInfo India Version 3.0. It is an indicator based database system developed by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) in collaboration with the UNICEF, India with the primary objective of promoting common accessibility of data and knowledge on the key development outcomes in India in order to enhance effective planning and monitoring of development activities. DevInfo India v3.0 contains more than 500 indicators and approximately 1.2 million records as compared to 314 indicators and slightly more than 1 million records in DevInfo India v2.0. The present adaptation, inter-alia, incorporates data from District Level Household and Facility Survey-3, revised National Family Health Survey-3, latest National Sample Survey reports and key results of Census 2011.
Speaking on the occasion the Minister said, “Today, we are amongst the best and most innovative national Statistical System in the world. We are an emerging economy with need for reliable and timely data on almost every aspect we can think of. A lot of hard earned money of the tax payers is spent by the Government for collection of data on a vast range of issues, which are of vital importance from the development perspective. Having collected data, Government is also duty bound to release the data in informative mode for the use by policy makers and planners, national and international organizations working in different areas, research organizations, think tanks and the public, in general.”
He said, “Both the statistical products ‘DevInfo India Version 3.0’ and ‘the Statistical Year Book 2012’ are our attempts to keep in tune with the latest technology so as to make life easier for those using these products. This also indicates our attempt to make our working places more and more paperless and contribute to the environment in a positive way.” Shri Jena hoped that the release function will serve to further invigorate our souls to strive for excellence and provide the society with desired data.
Also present on the occasion were, Shri S.K. Das, DG, CSO, Mr. Joaquin Gonzalez Aleman of UNICEF India, Shri A.K. Bhatia, ADG, CAP and Smt. S. Jeyalakshmi, ADG, SSD.
