| District Plans of 12 Minority Concentration Districts
of West Bengal Approved by the Ministry of Minority Affairs
for the 12th Five Year Plan Period

The Empowered Committee (EC) for
Multi-sectoral Development Programme
(MsDP)
in the Ministry of Minority Affairs has approved the District Plans of 12
Minority Concentration Districts (MCDs) of West Bengal for the 12th
Five Year Plan. The 58th Meeting of the Empowered Committee was held
recently under
the chairmanship of the Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs. The Government
of West Bengal had submitted additional plan proposals (for the 12th
Plan period) from Malda, Birbhum,
Burdwan, Murshidabad,
Nadia, Howrah, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin
Dinajpur, North 24 Pargana,
South 24 Pargana, Cooch Behar and Kolkata. The EC
approved the following projects and also the release of first installment of
50% of Central share with usual terms and conditions:
(i)
Birbum: The total
allocation for Birbhum district, West Bengal was Rs. Rs. 54.80 crore during 11th
Five year plan. The District has fully exhausted its allocation before March
2012. The district submitted additional proposal to address the development
deficits in the district. It was decided to approve the 50% of the total
allocation (Rs.27.40 crore) for 11th
plan for the district.:

The 58th
meeting of the Empowered
Committee also approved the revised District Plans of the following Minority
Concentration Districts (MCDs):
i.
Meerut, Bahraich, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shrawasti (Uttar Pradesh);
ii.
Gajapati (Odisha); and
iii. North East Delhi (Delhi).
The
representatives of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of
Drinking Water and Sanitation, and Ministry of Health and family Welfare
attended the meeting. The officials from State Governments attended the meeting
through video conferencing.
