NDMA Participates in India International Trade Fair, 2012
National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is participating in the forthcoming India International Trade Fair(IITF), 2012 from 14th to 27th November, 2012 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi to bring awareness among general public, students and various stakeholders about managing different kinds of disasters.

VC, NDMA OPENED NDMA STALL TODAY

The Authority has put up an interesting information pavilion in Hall No.6 at IITF to create awareness on the activities of the three Organisations- NDMA, National Disaster Response Force(NDRF) and National Institute of Disaster Management(NIDM) that are engaged in the task of disaster management. The ceremonial opening of the Stall was held today by Shri M.Shashidhar Reddy, Hon’ble Vice Chairman, NDMA. Different literature will be distributed to the visiting public on managing various kinds of disasters besides making continuous audio visual presentations at the NDMA pavilion.

In addition, NDRF shall be organizing three live demonstrations, two on Earthquake Disaster (16th & 18th November, 2012) and one on Chemical Disaster(17th November, 2012), to generate awareness among the community and other stakeholders about these disasters and its response mechanism. The demonstrations will be held between 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. at Hamsadhwani Open Air Theatre in Pragati Maidan.

In the earthquake demonstration, an earthquake scenario will be simulated leading to collapse of a Multistorey Building. The NDRF which is known for specialized response in such a situation will first locate the trapped victims using Advance Life Detection Tools such as Life Detector, Victim Location Unit , etc. as well as Canine squads . The NDRF personnel will then break the structure(RCC,Cement, Wooden) using Circulars Saws, Hammer Drills, etc. and carefully extricate the trapped victims. The victims will then be provided with pre hospital care.

Similarly, in the demonstration on Chemical Disaster, a chemical emergency scenario shall be simulated. The NDRF team which is called by Civil Administration for specialized response in such an emergency will first detect the chemical agent with state of art chemical detection equipments like Hazardous Gas Vapor Identifier (HGVI), Residual Vapor Detector (RVD), Water Poison Detection Kit (WPDK), Air Sampler & CW Sampling Kit. The rescue team with full personal protective equipments (PPE) will evacuate the victims by providing mask for breathing. The affected victims will be provided pre-hospital treatment. The team will then detect the leakage point of gas, seal it and further neutralize the gas in the defective cylinder. Affected persons, area and rescue team will be de-contaminated before leaving the accident site.

Both the above live demonstrations are expected to create awareness among the communities about the capabilities of NDRF, sensitize the visitors on disaster management issues and thus generate confidence among the public about their safety in such a situation.
