|Amendment in the Collection of Statistics Act |
|The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Shri Srikant Kumar Jena has said that the Government of India has a well-organized system for collection of data. The system is operated through highly trained and skilled personnel at different levels and uses techniques and built-in checks & balances for ensuring data reliability taking in to account all the factors which are relevant for maintaining quality of data collected, compiled and made available to the public. |
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today Shri Jena said, the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008 has already been notified on repealing the Collection of Statistics Act, 1953. This Act has been implemented in entire country except Jammu and Kashmir with effect from 11th June, 2010. The Collection of Statistics Rules, 2011 framed under this Act has also been notified for systematic and timely collection of reliable and relevant data. This Act has considerably improved and enhanced the ambit and scope for collection of quality statistics/data as compared to the old Act of 1953. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has also enacted the Jammu and Kashmir Collection of Statistics Act, 2010 on the lines of this Central legislation.
