Welcome Ceremony of NCC Mount Everest Expedition Team 2013

The NCC Mount Everest Expedition team was felicitated today at a grand function held at NCC Auditorium on their return from Nepal. They were received with traditional Indian hospitality at the Airport by senior NCC officials and driven to the NCC Camp with pomp and gaiety. NCC Cadets lined up all along the route to show their support and appreciation for the team.

The team was welcomed by DGNCC Lt Gen PS Bhalla, at the NCC Auditorium and felicitated with mementoes and cash awards. DGNCC remarked that history was created by this young team to be the “First pure NCC Expedition to summit the Pinnacle of glory .“ The Mount Everest “.

Earlier, History was created when the first ever Mount Everest Expedition of NCC Cadets scaled the world’s highest peak in two batches on 19 and 20 May 13. The first batch led by Sub Jagat Singh, 01 NCO and 05 NCC Cadets scaled the peak at 0730 (IST) on 19 May and the second batch of 02 NCOs and 03 NCC Cadets scaled at 0635 (IST) on 20 May 13. The team was led by Col SC Sharma, a renowned mountaineer and comprised of 18 members with 14 climbing members and 04 support members.

The team was flagged off by the Minister of State for Defence Mr Jitendra Singh on 03 Apr 2013 from Delhi. The team had earlier carried out extensive training at Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling and done two Pre- Everest Expeditions to Mt Deo Tibba and Mt Kamet. It had also carried out Winter Acclimatisation training at the Siachen Glacier before embarking on mission “Mount Everest”.
