THIRTEEN CHILDREN AWARDED FOR THEIR PAINTINGS ON ENERGY CONSERVATION

Aritra Sahoo of Sutahata Sarboday Prathamik Vidyalaya, Sutahata, Purba Medinipore, West Bengal was given the first prize for her expression on energy conservation/energy efficiency.  The President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil gave away the prizes here today to the winners of the National Painting Competition organized by the Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency for creating awareness regarding  energy conservation activities. 

Following is the list of prize winners :

1.       Aritra Sahoo of West Bengal State received the First Prize of Rs.1,00,000/-

2.       In the Second Prize Category, 4 prizes each of Rs 50,000 were won by

i.      Khanjan Kashyap of Rupavarnam Art School, Guwahati, Assam

ii       Pratik Samantray of St. Xavier’s High School, Bhubaneshwar, Orissa

iii.      A. Meghana of  Govt. H.P.S. sharada Vidhalaya, Kumta, Karnatka 

iv            Yeerina Debnath of  St. Augustine’s Day School, Barrackpore, Kolkata, West Bengal              

3.            In the Third Prize Category, 8 prizes each of Rs 25,000 were won by

                                            i.            Sanpreet Singh of BCM Arya Model Sr. School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana, Punjab

 

                                          ii.            Supayan Pal of Pranavandanda Vidyamandir, Agartala, Tripura (W)

                                         iv.            Aharika Baskar of Anna Adarsh M.H. S. School, Anna Nagar,Tamil Nadu

                                     viii.            Arighna Sarkar of Calcutta Boys’ School, Banerjee Road, Kolkata, West Bengal

This year, the themes were “Saving Electricity”, “Climate Change” and “Green Transport”.  Across the country, 24,385 schools and 5.25 lakh students of 4th and 5th Standard participated in the school level painting competition.  This participation was about 35% higher than that in the previous year.

 

 The Ministry of Power and Bureau of Energy Efficiency launched the National Awareness Campaign in order to promote energy conservation in the country.  Painting competition for students at the school, State and at National level has been included as one of the activities of the campaign, which would not only make the children aware about the need for conserving energy, but at the same time would also educate and involve their parents as well in this cause.  The competition aims to motivate children towards thinking about energy conservation, and offers them a chance to explore their creativity.
