  The Department of Posts has paid rich tributes to the great nationalist Dula Bhaya Kag by bringing out a commemorative postage stamp on him. A poet, a nationalist, a composer and singer of folk songs, Shri Dula Bhaya Kag was inspired by the freedom fighters of his time and by such great personalities like Vinoba Bhave and Mahatma Gandhi, his poetry became the instrument for expressing his nationalistic feelings. The commemorative stamp, in the denomination of rupees five, will be released tomorrow at Ahmedabad to coincide with the Birth Anniversary Day of the great poet. Earlier, he was honoured with Padmashree Award in the year 1962.

Born in the year 1903 in a village in the Saurashtra Region, Dula Bhaya Kag could only receive education upto Class five due to shouldering the responsibility of minding the cattle which belonged to his family. Even then, he devoted the time available to him to poetry as he tended the cattle. Due to his involvement in the national movement he evinced interest in the prohibition activities after the formation of Saurashtra State He donated his land to Vinoba Bhave’s Bhudan Movement. Kag’s poetic excellence and effective recital set apart him from his contemporaries. He published “Kagvani” in eight volumes, devotional songs, episodes from Ramayana and Mahabharata and songs based on Gandhian philosophy and the Bhudan Movement. Dula Bhaya Kag passed away on 22nd February 1977.
