ALL INDIA CONSUMER PRICE INDEX NUMBER FOR INDUSTRIAL WORKERS INCREASES

The All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) (base 2001-100) increased by one point during September 2006 to stand  at 125 (one hundred and twenty five) points. 

The Rise/Fall in index varied from centre to centre.  The index during September, 2006 recorded the highest increase of  5 points in Labac-Silchar centre.  It increased by 4 points in Ranchi-Hatia, 3 points in seven centres ( Siliguri, Surat, Jalandhar, Monghyr-Jamalpur, Jharia, Salem and Giridih centres), by 2 points in  12 centres and  by one point in 27 centres.

The index decreased by  2 points in Quilon centre  and by one point each  in 5  centres( Nasik, Raniganj, Sholapur,  Bhavnagar and Mundakayam). In the remaining 24centres the index remained stationary.

            During the month the maximum increase of  5 points in Labac-Silchar centre was contributed by increase in the prices of Rice, Wheat Atta, Potato and other vegetable items, etc.  

            On the other hand,   Quilon centre experienced a decrease of 2 points  mainly due to decrease in prices of  Fish Fresh.  

 

            The index in respect of six main centres for September, 2006 stood at the following level:-

1.         Ahemdabad   124    

4.         Delhi               125    

2.         Bangalore      127

5.         Kolkata           125

3.         Chennai          118

6.         Mumbai          129
