OVER RS. 93 LAKH PAID AS UNEMPLOYMENT ALLOWANCE UNDER RAJIV GANDHI SHRAMIK KALYAN YOJANA

  Rs. 93.13 lakh have been paid as unemployment allowance to workers during the current financial year till the end of October under Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation. 1304 applications were received for payment of unemployment allowance under the scheme. 757 applications were found eligible while 407 applications were rejected. Another 140 applications are under process.

The highest number of 289 applications were received in Kanpur and an amount of 30.28 lakh were distributed. In Pune and Pondicherry 150 applications each were received and a cash benefit of Rs. 17.33 lakh and Rs. 14.45 lakh were paid respectively. In Goa 142 applicants applied for unemployment allowance while in Nagpur 140 applicants and 106 applicants in Andhra Pradesh applied for payment of unemployment allowance.

Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana has been in operation since April 1, 2005. Under the scheme unemployment allowance paid to workers for six months who are rendered unemployed involuntarily on account of closure of factories/establishments, retrenchment or permanent invlaidity not less than 50 per cent arising out of non-employment injury. The unemployment allowance paid is equal to the Standard benefit Rate based on average wages during the last four completed contributed periods. The insured persons and their family members are also entitled to the medical care for a period of six months from the date of unemployment.
