Selection of feature and non –
feature films were announced by the Juries for the Indian Panorama 2005 today.
The feature films Jury has recommended 20 films for the Indian Panorama while the non-feature Jury recommended 15
films for inclusion in the Indian Panorama. Jury chairmen presented their
Reports to the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Shri S. Jaipal
Reddy. The Juries assessed 82 feature
films and 147 non-feature films over a period of 17 days. The Indian Panorama section is an integral
part of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
The feature
films Jury was headed by noted filmmaker Shri M.S. Sathyu and had its members
Biplab Roychaudhury, Dr. R K Verma, Shalini Shah, Roja Ramani and C P Padmakumar.
The non-feature films Jury was headed by veteran film director Shri Aribam
Shyam Sharma and had its members Arun
Chaddha, Sanjivan Lal, MC Raja Narayanan, and M A Rahman.
The aim of
the Indian Panorama is to select feature and non-feature films of cinematic,
thematic and aesthetic excellence for the promotion of film art through non
profit screenings of these films in International Film Festivals in India
and abroad, in Indian Film Weeks held under various exchange programmes and
Cultural Exchange Programmes, specialized Indian films festivals abroad and
special Panorama Festivals in.
The Indian
Panorama section of the IFFI-2005, to be held at Goa this year from Nov24 to
Dec04, 2005 will open with
Daivanamathil (Malayalam) directed by Jayaraj,
while the opening film of the non-feature section would be The Jaws of
Death directed by Gautam Saikia. The juries
have also decided that Perumazhakkalam (Malayalam) directed by Kamal and Iqbal
(Hindi) directed by Nagesh Kukunoor will represent India in the Competition
section of the 36th International Film Festival of India.
