Railways, sail and coal India ltd. to set up working groups for long term strategy

In a significant move to accelerate the growth of railway freight traffic in core sectors like steel and coal, a decision has been taken to set up working groups to chalk out a long term strategy in this regard. The decision was taken at a meeting held by Shri K.C. Jena, Chairman. Railway Board with Shri S.K.Roongta, Chairman, Steel Authority of Indian Limited (SAIL) and Shri P.S.Bhattacharyya, Chairman, Coal India Limited to discuss future prospects of growth of railway freight traffic in both coal and steel sectors. The two working groups separately for each sector comprising of officers from Railway Board, Coal India Limited and SAIL, will prepare long term vision scenario for both the sectors. This is expected to provide a platform for taking proper investment decisions and equipping Railways to meet the growing demands in both sectors.

The meeting deliberated on anticipated growth in the 11th Five Year Plan and beyond. During the meeting various important issues like reducing detentions to rolling stock and loading & loading activities, developing new areas for movement of raw materials etc. were also discussed.
