Status Report on Avian Influenza outbreak as on 23.02.09

West Bengal Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, GOI has notified fresh Avian Influenza outbreak in Baramahar Village [block Harirampur], district Dakshin Dinajpur on 17th February, 2009. Containment measures are continuing. Central Rapid Response Team of MoHFW is assisting the state health authorities. Culling activity has been completed on 21.2.2009. So far 8273 birds have been culled. 210 cullers are under chemoprophylaxis. Surveillance activities has started in 0-3 Km and 3-10 Km. In 0-3 Km area total population of 22251 has been covered. 43 cases of URI/Fever have been identified in the community but had no exposure history to sick/dead poultry. In 3-10 Km area surveillance is conducted in phases. On 22.2.2009 a population of 10153 has been covered and no cases with URI/fever has been detected. State Govt. has adequate stock of Oseltamivir, personal protective equipments etc. The affected district has been provided with 6700 oseltamivir capsules, 230 PPE and 150-N-95 masks.
