The Minister of Tourism Kumari Selja has said that identification and development of tourist spots are primarily undertaken by the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations. The Ministry of Tourism provides financial assistance for tourism projects on the basis of proposals received from them subject to availability of funds and inter-se priority. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today she said, during the current financial year 106 tourism projects for Rs. 398.33 crore have been sanctioned in the country upto September, 2009. This includes 17 projects for Rs. 34.92 crore in Jammu & Kashmir.
