Lamenting the absence of middle ground between the high brow ‘art films’ and big commercial ventures, Umakanth Thumrugoti, director of 7 Days in Slow Motion said that people want to see good movies which can be seen with entire family and we have to provide means to do that. Producer Ms. Soumya Sriraman also wondered where have films like ‘Chupke Chupke’ have gone. Talking about his film Umakanth said that it’s a movie on severe academic pressure on children and it has been told in an entertaining manner. ‘It is a feel good movie’ added Ms. Soumya Sriraman. The director producer duo also felt that exorbitant ticket price is another reason that families are staying away from theatres. Variable pricing for different shows and other incentives to encourage families to watch films are needed along with wholesome family entertainers, added the director. 15 year veteran of Disney Feature Animation, Umakanth visualizes his stories in art palettes and story panels. He began his career at Disney training on Lion King and proceeding to earn credits on such films as Pocahontas, Fantasia 2000, Treasure Planet, Chicken Little. He took a one year sabbatical to shoot his first feature film 7 days in Slow Motion in India. A family film on the academic pressures on children in middle-class India, it uses comedy juxtaposed with drama, and has been making the film festival rounds with distinction. Having won the audience award at Stuttgart’s Bollywood & Beyond, New Jersey’s South Asian Festival and the Special Recognition Award at Houston’s inaugural Indian Film Festival, it has garnered significant interest by word of mouth. ************************ DS/AS
