Income Tax Department provides relief material for Tsunami-affected people

The Income Tax Department immediately responded and organised the relief on humanitarian grounds for tsunami affected people. The employees of Income Tax Department responded quickly following an appeal issued by the Chairperson, CBDT, Smt. Shobha Majumdar, for contribution of atleast one day’s salary so that 3 lac litres of mineral water packed in one litre bottles, one lac packets of glucose biscuits and 35000 packets of roasted-salted groundnuts could be sent to the worst affected people in Andaman and Car Nicobar group of Islands.

The delivery of relief materials, by the Income Tax Department, started from January 1, 2005 and most of the materials have already reached tsunami affected people. The Department has delivered two lac, one-litre water bottles and other eatables so far. The lifting of water bottles is still in progress.

The Chairperson, CBDT has contributed her one day’s salary for relief of tsunami affected people.
