Legislation for the regulation of education and practice of pharmacy in Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy

The Union Cabinet today approved a proposal to make provisions for the regulation of education and practice of pharmacy in Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy by introducing the Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy Pharmacy Bill, 2005 in the Parliament. The legislation seeks to set up the Central Pharmacy Council to:
(i) regulate the education and practice of the Pharmacists in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy.
(ii) maintain register of Pharmacists.
(iii) bring uniformity in the standards of Pharmacy education in these disciplines.
(iv) These persons would be able to bring quality in the identification, collection, preservation and manufacturing of Medicines.
(v) These systems would be able to deliver quality medicines to the public. The manufacturing units and retail outlets shall ensure that the institutionally qualified personnel with scientific knowledge shall manage the medicines in these disciplines.
